MameUI Alternative

We all know that MAMEUI had stop . What Is your Alternative to MAMEUI ? 

Until someone bring back MameUi again, I'm using Mame. Differents frontends like Negatron or IV play aren't enought for my needs.

Of course you can use HBmame or Arcade, but you lose the computers, consoles and handhelds..

So I guess that out of the 8 billion people on this planet, nobody is capable of compiling a new MAMEUI. A rather sad picture of society these days.

I personally will use:QMAME CAT II / M.A.M.E. Catalog / Launcher II (QMC2) from https://qmc2.batcom-it.net/

or rest MxUI, simple but efficient and old school...

Jets showed me this thread. And I'm curious to know what's missing in Negatron to make it a good alternative to MameUi.

I won't necessarily implement anything else as I'm quite happy with what Negatron already is for my own personal needs. But it's always a good thing to know the thoughts of others about what can be improved.

Negatron has issues displaying the games list properly when searching. The game list disappears or doesn't refresh properly when scrolling.

 For example Negatron doesn't display the folder inis, or tells you the games that are missing...

 I don't have this issue. What is your configuration ? OS version, Java version ?

There is a column named "Status" with icons showing which are in a good state or a bad state. Bad state can mean missing entirely or with some bad dumps. Hum, it's true that there are some games without any good dumps and so it can be practical to make the difference between bad dumps and missing games. I don't remember why I didn't show missing games differently. I'll check this.

As for the folder inis, I'm not sure to understand what you want Negatron to display with them. Can you show me the equivalent screen in MameUi so I can understand better?

Yeah is the left panel. You can list the games by categories: Avaliable, unavaliable, custom, favorites... For example I use this categories to know exactly the roms working for each version of mame.

I create an ini called mygames with all the roms working, then with the avaiable one I can compare the roms I'm missing..

Of course there are other ways to do this.

Would be great if you implement that behaviour in your frontend...

Actually,  you can already display the content of .ini files, it's just that you currently can't export your own list to a .ini file. In Negatron, this is called "Folder View". In the Global Config Pane, you can set the paths to the folders containing .ini files. Then left to the search bar above the machine list, there is a "+" button. Click on it to open a new pane to select the .ini you want to display.

But instead of doing this, you can get your list of missing ROMS just by filtering the content of the machine list after Negatron finished doing its background checks the first time you launched it. You know that it finished doing those checks when the spinning wheel animation on the bottom right corner disappears. Then right to the same search bar above the machine list, click on this other "+" button. Uncheck preliminary in the "Support Level" section and uncheck good and bad in the "ROM & CHD Status" section. If those filters were working as they should, you would have your list of missing ROMs. But it looks like there is a bug with those 2 sections and filtering doesn't work well with those 2... I will check and fix this.

 You currently can't remove any of those tabs. But it should be easy to add this option. It should be done for the next version of Negatron :)

I have tried using Negatron, when running it I get the error message "java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: Index 1 out of bounds for length 1".

Does anyone know why or how to fix it?

There should be something else before and after this message? With this part of the message, I only know that an error occured but there aren't enough information to see what triggered this error.

 Arcade does not feature home systems, so is not the same as MameUI :)

When the program is executed, it asks for the path of the mame executable, it is entered and valid. And the error appears. Even if you delete the .ini file several times, it is impossible for the program to continue.

I don't know what format the .ini should have for it to accept it.

 It looks like Negatron fails at reading your mame.ini in J:\MAME\. Can you send me your mame.ini to see what went wrong? To exclude any other kind of errors, can you also backup your mame.ini, delete it from J:\MAME\ and then try Negatron again to see if it goes further?

I Recommended this tool M+GUI still working. It's very old, but the list continues to read and run games correctly. 

Found, the error was in the mame.ini, other front-ends had written weird characters, I don't remember what it was, I've tried several.

Thanks for remind me that.  But still bad, because we hide the games and still we have blue wall poker games, if we hide and let the working and Preliminary roms it will be the same and it sucks.

Emuloader was one of the best FrontEnds for MAME, but unfortunately its developer is absent for a long time. I hope he is alive and well.

Hoping isn't going to get him to rise from his grave.

Sadly nobody here seems to be able to create / compile MAMEUI now.

I hope john iv will compile a "last one" 0.250 version of MAMEUI when MAME will have it´s 0.250 anniversary in December/Christmas 2022 for us.

Is this so much work? He could at least compile every fifth version or so.

 Problem is not compiling. Problem is the source is freezed and the project discontinued.

Compile it is easy, but you need a developer to continue it and solve the latest issues.

What are the latest issues? Do you try compiling to find out?

You'd better make sure it works, since it's only supposed to work with GCC 10.1 .

Didn' say nothing, but since I saw changes onf mameui source at github tried to compile both 32 and 64 versions and worked fine. 

Used msys32-2016-02-16 for 32bits and msys64-2020-11-03 for the 64 bit. Both seem to work, the only strange thing it says MameUI 0.251...

It the mameui code is updated with the new mame release I can continue compiling 32bit versions, even 64 too...
