me ?, I'm using clrmamepro with the DAT generated from the gcc(appveyor) executable.

Can I confirm which one please so I don't scan with the wrong one?

On the latest commit (https://github.com/finalburnneo/FBNeo/commits/master), there will be a green tick if the build was successful. Click on the green tick, scroll down to the "continuous-integration/appveyor/branch/"  and click details

When the AppVeyor page has loaded select the build type you wish to test, I use the fbn-win32-gcc version but the rest should be self-explanatory. After clicking on it you should have a build log with some tabs above it, click on the Artifacts tab and the binary will be there.

I have now created the dat files using the latest (?) FBNeo but didn't get a dat file I could see that matched the "nes_hb" folder thats created, did I do something wrong?

"NES Games" covers both official and HB NES games.
