Wow... i now feel old lolMAME 0.28 was released on 7 September 1997.
This was the first version of MAME (MAMEMU DOS) I ever picked up and went "Wonder how this works and how to I get the games...?!"

Same here. Can't remember the exact date but it was definitely mid to late 1997. I used to have these game disks from Champ Games (remember floppies?) (Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, Popeye). I had a ton of shortcuts on the desktop. What a long way MAME has come, huh?
As for non-arcade games, I find all of the TV Games and handhelds interesting. From Mattel Electronics to JAKKS Pacific plug and plays to the consoles.
I'll say one thing - MAME is never boring. I'm always tinkering with it.
MAME on!!!

I discovered MAME around 2001 playing around on my parents PC (remember Windows XP!!!) and I've been hooked ever since. I remember back then how unsatisfied I felt with most of the console ports of my favorite arcade games (most of them sucked). The only options at that time was playing the crappy console version, take a long trip to the arcades which were slowly disappearing or owning these expensive, refrigerator sized arcade machines at home which wasn't an option for me.
Discovering MAME was truly mind blowing at that time plus it brought me into the world of emulation! Crazy to see how far we've come!!!
