HowTo MMAE 0.XXX ROMs sooner ...

Hello together,

can someone explain my, how to deal with these updates, metinoned in the header?

My Problem ist, I have Mame 0.226 on my harddrive. Now I downlaoded  MMAE 0.227 ROMs sooner ... an tried to copy all the files from 227 to the 226 rom dir. While copying, windows warned me from files allready existing. So I had a look at some of these files:

for example: aquarius.zip

0.226 0.227
 aquarius.zip 14 kb  aquarius.zip 9kb
 files inside
 aq.u2  aq2.u2
 aq_s2.u2 aq2.u5

Different size and different files inside. This ist, what I see in other files too. Does that mean, I have to copy new and old files to a single zip file, oder do I replace the old file with the new file, or do I keep the bigger, in this case older, file?

Please explain t me, how to deal with thise files

Greetings from south germany

Kepp in mind then roms from the sooner thread are not complete roms. You must use a rommanger to rebuild your set to to a full mame set.

otherwise use the roms from mame***full folder, they are complete roms (Splitted sets)

Here's a document I've put together for my son can update the copy of mame on his NAS.

Hello, took a while to come back, just bought a pinball machine, a hang on und and a car race cab. Also worked on VPinball in VR and 3D.

Anyway, thanks for the explanation, I allready thought, that these XXX ROMs sooner ... where not complete sets, thats why I asked.

You mean, useing the roms from mame***full folder from bda.retroroms.info, would create a complete set i.e. from mame 0.229? But there are only single files, not a bunch of *.zip files. Would take me ages to download them one after the other.

Is there a possibility to download them in one go, lets say with weget, or something else?

long time ago i started with mame .162 or so, guess I had a complete set at that time. I allready downloaded a lot of updates until .229. What kind of Rommanager do you use, to merge the different update sets?

I know, these are a lot of questions from a newbee, and someone who loves rebuildung original cabs with mame inside.

Greetings form  the capital of the black forrest

The rom manager everyone uses i clrmamepro

Documentation

The fastest and to get a rom set is here.

http://www.pleasuredome.org.uk/

It's a torrent site and they ask for a 2:1 share ratio.

Have some class and don't hit and run, even if your a paid member.

PD doesn't ask for a 2:1 ratio and they don't have a paid membership.

Thaks for the hints, allready downloading the mame 0.299 from there. Guess the merged torrent ist the right one. But whats the difference between merged, non-merged and split, except the size of the download?

Merged is when all the roms for game contains all images for the game, clones and bios/devices are in one archive.

This saves space by eliminating duplicates. Biggest space savings is from chds.

Non-merged is the game image and clones are in separate archives with any bios/divices files included.

This is the way these rom images are distributed.

Lastly, everything is in own archive.

It is worth remembering that in MAME "beta" versions there are often redumbs of the roms, being able to change the name, size etc.

@rwood2477

that meas, it only needs the merged archives, roms and chds, to make mame 0.229 work.

in former versions, I hav, I never manages to make the chds work, hope this will work, after I download the chds (merged)

Merged, Non-Merged or Split set shouldn't matter in the operation of the game.

Some games requires them to initialized for them to work.

One example is JoJo's Bizarre Adventures.

On Progettosnaps there's a gameint dat file.

Or if your in the game hit tab and select external dat view

Then select the Gameinit tab

The chd for this game is disc imanage and has to be loaded as it would have to be in the arcade machine.

It creates a NVRAM file in your nvram folder.

This will  only have to be done once. Unless the the image name was changed in a version update.

Thank you for the answer, I will try to play some of the games, and if I do not get along, I will aks again.

The easiest way to update your sets is to go to

If you have USENET

This is the service I use.

https://www.newshosting.com/

It also comes with a VPN.

Here's free servers.

https://greycoder.com/best-free-usenet-servers/

Gives a chance to check it out, just need a news reader  and find one with binary groups.

Back in the '90s most ISP's bundled usenet with their service and I really was spending on this.

I would post in 0day gamez and 0day warez. Sort o got hooked on it. I don't post much anymore.

Just in alt.binaries.emulators.mame      I'll post a few things.

Mostly I download videos to populate my Plex server. I try to minimize my use o torrents.
